When you play for a jury panel, you want to focus only on the music. Music, music, music!! Don't get intimidated by the panel. Them people are just people. It doesn't even mean that they are more talented than you are in the field. They are just (usually) older and have more experience, whatever that means, and for better or worse. Yes, focus on making music, and enjoy sharing its beauty to the universe. Let everyone who listens to you, including jury panel, realizes that you love music and serve music with absolute honesty and humility.

Having correspondence with Andrei Gavrilov for over a year has given me some insight and information about various subjects. Everybody knows that Gavrilov is great Russian pianist, who won the Tchaikovsky International Competition and has recorded superb albums for the Gramophone. (Yes, he is on facebook)

Anyway, one time I asked him a question about doubts. Doubts in artistry, and how to overcome it. And here is what he replies: "To overcome doubts - that's the task of a life. Some day you are reaching deep open waters where you feel home and every note of every composer becomes clear for you as a sky. But there are no recipe to overcome this desert of doubts, everybody searching his own way. Almost 99 percent stay and die in this desert. Handful of people cross it."

TS: Do you think you have crossed the desert?

AG: Not long ago But it is not up to me to judge. People feel something new dimensional and starting talk world wide about it.So something really happened I guess, i hope.

"Untuk mengatasi keraguan - itulah tugas sebuah kehidupan. Suatu saat Anda mencapai lautan terbuka yang mendalam di mana Anda merasa di rumah dan setiap not yang ditulis komposer menjadi jelas bagi Anda seperti langit. Tapi tidak ada resep untuk mengatasi gurun keraguan ini, setiap orang mencari sendiri jalannya. Hampir 99 persen tinggal dan mati di padang gurun ini. Hanya segelintir orang menyeberanginya.. "

TS: Apakah Anda pikir Anda telah menyeberangi padang pasir tersebut?
AG: Tidak lama yang lalu. Tapi ini bukan untuk saya untuk menilai sendiri. Orang-orang merasa sesuatu yang berdimensi baru dan membicarakannya diseluruh dunia tentang sesuatu it. Jadi sesuatu benar-benar terjadi saya kira, saya berharap.
